Introducing Newspond Chat

Posted March 3, 2008 by Ian

Today we rolled out Newspond Chat. Newspond chat has been in the works for some time, but it didn't make the cut when we launched a few weeks ago.

Newspond Chat allows you to view and reply to any comment posted anywhere on Newspond. We hope this improves the flow of communication across the site by allowing users to comment on news items without having to watch several different pages for new comments.

Newspond Chat can also be used for off topic discussion. Feel free to post anything on any topic. We've even included a filter to only view off topic threads.

Buoyancy Tweaks and More RSS

Posted Feburary 25, 2008 by Chan

We've created 3 new RSS Feeds. Technology, Games, and Science. We promise to have a more customizable "roll your own" type offering in the future.

The Buoyancy scores have also been tweaked so that the news under "Most Popular Now" is a more accurate representation of what's popular in the last few hours. If you're looking for the biggest stories of the day, use the "Biggest Today" filter.

Please let us know if you find any problems with either of these features as they are new, and we appreciate your feedback.

RSS Feed, Quick Update

Posted Feburary 20, 2008 by Ian

Well a lot of people have asked for it, so here it is. The Newspond RSS Feed. This feed only contains the data displayed on the front page, but we promise we'll have a more elaborate offering soon. News by category, mixing categories etc.

Second, we will be tweaking the buoyancy score over the next week to improve the speed of the news. A lot of great stories are hanging out on the 2nd and 3rd pages while a few very popular stories monopolize the top spots. We are currently modeling some functions to see if we can get a better result.

Again, thank you everyone and please stay tuned, we will be rolling out some great new features in the future.

Making Ripples

Wow! Thanks for the amazing response so far to the site. Many thanks to Mashable, downloadsquad, techmeme, TechCrunch, and numerous other blogs who linked our launch. We are working on rolling out quick fixes to the bugs you guys have sent in. We'll be touching up the comments and the news very soon.

We are also working on some neat new features (that didn't make the launch) that will make viewing news and commenting on stories even better. Expect to see new features in an upcoming point release.

Are you having problems activating your account? If so, try this quick utility, which will re-send your activation email. If that still doesn't work, contact us and we'll activate you manually. We are examining the issue closely and hope to have a fix soon.

Once again, thanks! We're working our hardest to make Newspond the best collection engine we can. Cheers!

Introducing Newspond

Welcome to Newspond, the ultimate news site! Newspond uses an AI brain to discover and sort news as it surfaces all across the internet. And unlike other news aggregators, it doesn't just relate news stories. It reasons, using every possible piece of data about what people are doing with a story. How strong is the discussion surrounding the story? How many people are reading it? What kind of sites are reporting it? Newspond looks at it all and assigns a Buoyancy Rating, a measure of the precise upward force the internet is exerting on a story. Click here to learn more.
